Work begins at Chamkur Sahib park

Construction work of the theme park to be built at Chamkaur Sahib, in the memory of two elder sahibzadas of the tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh, began yesterday with religious ceremonies.
 
Panj piaras from Gurudwara Katalgarh Sahib, Chamkaur Sahib dug the soil to start the construction work after recitation of path of Sukhmani Sahib at the site of the theme park.
 
Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister, Punjab, Jagmohan Singh Kang was present on the occasion.
 
In his address, Kang said the theme park was being constructed at a cost of Rs 17 crore, which would include the construction of an open air theatre, a main block, art galleries and land scaping, among others, adding that Markfed would be the executing agency for the project.
 
He said the first phase of the project would be completed by September 30 this year, while the remaining work would be completed by March 31 next year.
 
He also asked the executing agency to ensure the quality of the construction work and complete the work within the stipulated time period. Deputy Commissioner, Ropar, Alok Shekhar, SSP Kapil Dev and other district administration officials were also present.
 
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had laid the foundation stone of the theme park during sahibzada's 92nd martyrdom day tercentenary in December 2004.
 
Work on the construction of the memorial to younger sahibzadas and Mata Gujri at village Saheri was also begun later with full religious ceremonies.
