Centre today said work on the Loharinag Pala, Pala Maneri and Bhaironghati hydel power projects in Uttarakhand has been suspended due to agitation by some environmental groups.
Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said a report on the projects has been given to the National Ganga River Basin Authority a few days back.
He noted that project work had started only in Loharinag Pala and not at Pala Maneri and Bhaironghati.
On projects on Teesta Basin, the ministry has advised the Sikkim government to avoid dams and developmental activities above Chungthang area due to ecological and geological sensitivity, he said.
Ramesh said the Sikkim government has asked the Environment Ministry to reconsider its stand regarding proposed projects in the Chungthang area.
The ministry had advised the Sikkim government to provide complete technical data from a competent source for further consideration of their request, he said adding that state has since submitted the report.
