World Bank announces Rs 2,254-cr aid for Rajasthan

Multilateral lending agency World Bank today announced Rs 2,254-crore assistance for four new state level projects in Rajasthan.

World Bank Group President, Robert B Zoellick today announced Rajasthan Rural Livelihoods project, Rural Road Project, Rajasthan agricultural competitiveness project and additional financing for ongoing water sector restructuring project after meeting the state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, an official release here said.

Rajasthan Rural Livelihoods Project aims to help increase and sustain income of the poor, especially women, in selected drought prone districts in the state.

"This will be done through social mobilization, credit linkage to banks and micro-finance institutions and new livelihood strategies adaptable to climate change," the release said.

While, the other project is aimed at increasing road connectivity in sparsely populated rural areas which are not covered under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) of the Union government.

Besides these, it also announced to two other proposals for water restructuring project and agriculture.
