The Andhra Pradesh government proposes to seek additional support from the Centre in its endeavour to make agriculture more profitable and the state free from farmers' suicides.

On the eve of the chief ministers of southern states' conclave to be held here on Monday, chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy held a high-level meeting with the state officials on the state-specific issues to be focused at the meet.

Chief ministers of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala will participate in the meeting to be chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and focus on permanent and immediate measures to tackle the spiraling farmers suicides and their inherent hardships.

The chief minister plans to hard sell the problems faced by the farmers of Andhra Pradesh and extract a special package from the Centre to boost the farm sector and make farmers self-reliant and self-sufficient in all aspects.
