CAT 2017-18: Results, Shortlisting And Admission Process

The official site has confirmed that the candidates can download their Admit Cards for CAT 2017 from 25th October 2017 to 26th November 2017.

As the Admit Cards for CAT 2017 Examination have been released, candidates will be getting nervous seeing the exam round the corner (November 24, 2017 Friday). The official site has confirmed that the candidates can download their Admit Cards for CAT 2017 from 25th October 2017 to 26th November 2017. Keep in mind that the mock test for CAT 2017 will be available in the last week of October. Also it is to be noted that candidates who indicate their interest for IIM Indore PGP while applying for CAT 2017 will be considered for PGP (both Indore & Mumbai campus) of IIM Indore. Final selection will be as per the admission procedure for the respective programme.

Results and Shortlisted Candidates:

Everything concerning CAT 2017 exam results will be available in the second week of January 2018 on the IIM official website. The list of candidates shortlisted for the next level of selection will be announced on the website of the respective IIMs. Each IIM will share interview letters with the shortlisted candidates directly. Keep in mind that the parameters for shortlisting vary from IIM to IIM.

Process of Admission:

The IIMs shortlisting the candidates for the next round of selection may be independent of each other. The Applicants taking up the exam for the first time can go through the registration guide and video which is available on the official site. Keep in mind that the graduates must have at least 50% marks to be eligible to apply for CAT 2017 and 45% for the graduates under reserved categories. There will be separate notifications from IIM Ahmedabad, PGPEM & PGPPM Programmes of IIM Bangalore, EPGP of IIM Indore, and EFPM & EPGPM of IIM Kashipur, PGP-ABM & PGP-SM of IIM Lucknow, PGPWE of IIM Raipur, PGDHRM of IIM Ranchi, EPGP of IIM Rohtak, PGPEX of RGIIM Shillong and PGPBM of IIM Tiruchirappalli for their management courses such as PGP-FABM & ePGP.

Admission process includes Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). All these stages hinge upon your performance in CAT 2017 examination. IIMs may furthermore use other factors like previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs. For more information, refer the admissions policies of IIMs from their respective websites.

What if you are shortlisted?

If you are shortlisted for interviews by any IIM, kindly comply with the following eligibility verification:
  • Mark sheets and Degree Certificate
  • Show all the mark sheets and submit attested copies to prove eligibility at the time of interview.
  • If selected for a programme, produce original degree certificate and mark sheets of all semesters/years along with their attested copies for verification at the time of joining the programme.

Special Category Requirements: If you fall under the special category (SC, ST, NC-OBC and PWD), then you (if shortlisted) must show the original caste/class and/or disability certificate and submit a photocopy at the time of interview. Further, if a candidate is selected for a programme, the original certificate of qualifying degree and attested copy of the same must be submitted for verification at the time of joining a programme.

What if you are in final year of graduation?
Those appearing for the final bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification examination, if shortlisted, must produce an original certificate from the Principal / Registrar / Director of the university/ institution confirming that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent (45% for SC, ST, and PWD) based on latest available grades/marks. He/she must submit an attested copy of the original certificate at the time of interview.

Note that the last date for submission of the mark sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2018. If not submitted, the IIM authority will have to cancel the candidate’s provisional admission. Also it will also be cancelled if the certificate submitted is found to be fake or incorrect subsequently.
