Hinting at both robust summer placements process and an upcoming buoyant final placements season, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has so far attracted a record 227 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs).
Concluding a robust summer internship process, conducted completely in online mode, IIT Madras has seen as many as 227 PPOs as on November 5, 2021, as against 186 offers during the entire 2020-21 academic year. The PPOs will continue to be made till the commencement of phase-1 of final campus placements, which is scheduled for December 1, 2021.
Sector-wise, so far the Core Engineering and R&D sectors accounted for most of the PPOs to date, making 60 per cent of the offers. The major recruiters for PPOs include Qualcomm, Microsoft, Honeywell, Texas Instruments and Goldman Sachs.
According to C S Shankar Ram, Advisor (Training and Placement), IIT Madras, PPOs are a natural outcome of interaction that is a win-win for both companies and students, even as it helps students to learn more about the company, the roles that they may be offered and potential career prospects.
Meanwhile, highlighting the importance of internships to final campus placements in IIT Madras, Sathyan Subbiah, Advisor (Internships), IIT Madras, said that the former process transforms the student from class-room ready to real-world placement ready. "Shaped by curricular and extra-curricular experiences at IIT Madras, our students are excelling in their internships. This has given enough confidence in the companies leading to pre-placement offers," he said.
