According to media reports, the results of thousands of students were on hold for various reasons this year. University has cited reasons including untraceable answer sheets, un-assessed answer sheets and difficulty in reconciling papers with students.

Delayed results
MU missed several deadlines in declaring the results this year. Reportedly, the results for the commerce stream were delayed for over three months due to a shortfall of teachers in accountancy and audit. Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao had set the initial deadline of July 31, 2017 for the university to announce the results.

On August 31, 2017, after the results were delayed for a sixth time, MU’s counsel Rui Rodrigues reportedly told the Mumbai High court that the "Ganpati festival and Tuesday's (August 29, 2017) deluge” in the megapolis set the assessment process back by a further couple of days.

In April 2016, the varsity incorporated online assessment system for evaluating the answer papers. Sources also attribute the delay to the new evaluation process adopted by the university.

After effects of delay
Owing to the inordinate delay, MU is now planning to either cancel or cut short Diwali vacation for post-graduation students. The next set of exams are scheduled for November 2017, leaving teachers with less than enough time to complete the syllabus as mandated by the Universities Grants Commission (UGC). According to reports, Dhiren Patel, acting pro Vice-Chancellor said, “We teachers as well as students have to make a few adjustments here and there to make up for the lost time.”

Meanwhile, acting vice-chancellor Devanand Shinde thanked all the teachers and the staff at the examination department for accomplishing a mammoth task, and stated that the priority now would be to declare the results of papers submitted for re-evaluation as soon as possible so that the students attain clarity on re-examinations in October.
