Private sector educational institute Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has said that a total of 245 companies have visited its campus in this year's placement season so far and recruited 2026 students.
The campus recruitment, for the batch graduating in 2020, started on May 1, 2019 with PG internship placements. A total of 150 companies participated in the internship programme and selected 788 students from M Tech and MCA courses. Major internship recruiters included Amazon, Net App, Intel, VM Ware, Oracle, Philips and Cummins.
The selected students have started doing their 10 months internship. They are paid a monthly stipend ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. After the internship period, most of the students are expected to be absorbed as full time employees with a minimum package of Rs 5 lakh per annum, the institution said. "Dream Companies" are those that offer packages of over Rs 5 lakh, while "Super Dream Companies" offer over Rs 10 lakh.
The "Super Dream" companies were invited for the first phase of campus recruitments. The "Slot One" of the super dream companies was shared between four companies which offered more than Rs 25 lakhs per annum. Amazon, Pay Pal, Cisco and De Shaw were the slot one recruiters. Earlier, Microsoft has recruited 7 students with a CTC of Rs 41.6 Lakhs per annum from the current batch, which is the highest so far. According to VIT, 92 super dream companies have visited the campus to offer jobs and internships.
Core engineering placements were conducted parallely to the IT placements. Schlumberger, Bajaj Auto, L&T Construction, Valeo, NXP Semi-conductors, Cummins, Varroc, Waltech, Facilio, Shapoorji, Hyundai Motors were some of the core engineering companies that conducted campus recruitments at VIT, the institute said.
Consulting companies like Deloitte, JP Morgan and PWC were among the recruiters, with Deloitte alone hiring 105 students. KPMG, E&Y and BCG are expected to visit in the coming month. Multinational banks like RBS, Barclays, Axis Bank also participated. Bank of America and State Street are expected to visit in near future.
IT Services companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys and Capgemini are recruiting VIT students with a differential (higher) CTC, VIT said. TCS Digital has hired 244 students, the highest number of digital offers made by TCS in the country, said the institution.
Wipro hired 278 students, which is the highest number of dream offers (with gross salary of Rs 6.5 lakhs per annum) in the country surpassing the last year’s VIT-Wipro offers of 238. VIT and Wipro will enter into the Limca Book of Records for the fourth time in a row for offering highest number of "dream offers".
