Around 120 individuals have filed their nominations for the Lok Sabha elections 2014, and one person has filed for the by-election to the state Assembly from the Alandur constituency.
With this, the cumulative number till date stood at 318 for Lok Sabha (289 male, 28 female and one 'others') and four for assembly by-election (all male), according to the Chief Electoral Officer.
As on April 1, the highest number of candidates filing nomination was in Virudhunagar (11), followed by Tirunelvei and the industrial belt of Sriperumbudur (10 each).
While the ruling J Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK has decided to go alone, its rival DMK has forged an alliance with Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Indian Union Muslim League, Puthiya Tamizhagam and Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi; and the two Communist parties have decided to fight jointly in 18 seats.
