The Aam Aadmi Party today declared its fifth list of 56 candidates, taking the total tally to 187 till date.
The party has announced candidates from Maharashtra (17), Uttar Pradesh (9), Bihar (8), Madhya Pradesh (7), Assam (6),
Kerala (6), Gujarat (2) and Himachal Pradesh (1). The list includes name from diverse fields -- journalism, former IPS officers, doctor, advocate, social activists, etc.
Among the prominent names, well-known journalist Anita Pratap is set to contest from Union food and civil supplies minister KV Thomas' Ernakulam seat. This constituency will see a triangular fight as actor and civil servant Christie Fernandes has been roped in by the CPI (M) to fight from this seat.
Former IPS officer Suresh Khopade is set to take on Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule from Baramati in Maharashtra and fund manager HDFC Mutual Fund Satish Jain will be fighting from the Mumbai North constituency.
The party is expected to declare a total of around 350 candidates by next week. The previous lists included names such as Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Rajmohan Gandhi, former banker Meera Sanyal, former Infosys Chief Financial Officer (CFO) V Balakrishnan, senior party leader Yogendra Yadav and activist Medha Patkar.
The party will contest from all seats in Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
