Sunil Kulkarni, 43, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s candidate, is confident that he will give a good fight to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi in Vadodara in Gujarat. Modi is also contesting from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Kulkarni, a mechanical engineer, hails from Nashik in Maharashtra and has been putting up in Vadodara for the last eight years. He runs an infrastructure company.

Kulkarni formed the Komi Ekta Forum to prevent communal violence in the district.  "I am ready for a new role in politics. We have been preparing for the election for the last one-and-a-half years. It is only now that the announcement came," Kulkarni told Business Standard.

Talking about his opponent, Kulkarni said, "I have no problem about the opponent — be it a big leader or small. We have key issues which we will be taking up during the campaign.  The first and foremost thing is the development of Vadodara.”

Corruption is another issue Kulkarni is highlighting. “We plan to take on the opposition Congress and the BJP on these core issues. The entire campaign has been planned and, in the coming days, we will take these issues to the people.”
