Against the backdrop of electoral drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls, the North Eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh as offered some solace to the Congress party. The grand old party is all set to return to power in the mountainous state with a comfortable majority.
Till filing of this news report, Congress party had won 35 of the 60 assembly seats and was leading in another six seats. Out of the 35 seats, 11 seats were won uncontested by the Congress as there weren’t any opposition candidate and results of which were known after nomination filing process ended in March. The BJP had won four seats and was leading in five other seats. State-level party, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), had won three seats and was leading in two others. The Congress party has 42 MLAs in the outgoing assembly.
The Congress had contested 49 seats, followed by 42 by BJP and 16 by PPA. The Aam Aadmi Party also contested one of the seats. There were also others in the fray, which included Naga Peopl’s Front (NPF), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Independents.
With Arunachal Pradesh being a sparsely populated state, the voter size of constituencies is far smaller than those in other states. Anini, the smallest assembly constituency in the state, has only 3,904 registered voters. Itanagar constituency is the largest with a voter size of 60,998.

The big guns those who were in the fray were Geogong Apang, former chief minister and a BJP candidate, Jarbom Gamlin, former chief minister and Congress candidate, Tapang Taloh, cabinet minister in the outgoing government.
