Initial trends indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party is ahead in 27 of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. Barring Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath, all other Congress candidates are behind their rivals.
Among high profile candidates, BJP’s Sushma Swaraj is leading by 62,000 votes over her rival Lakshman Singh of Congress in Vidisha. Union Minister, Kamal Nath is now leading by a margin of 65,000 votes against BJP’s Chouhdary Chandrabhan Singh from Chhindwara seat. Senior Congress leader Ajay Singh who was leading by a margin of 3,164 votes against BJP’s sitting MP Ganesh Singh from Satna seat is now trailing behind by 278 votes. Alok Sanjar of BJP is leading by 20,000 votes over Congress’ P.C Sharma in Bhopal.
Union minister and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia was leading by 57,000 votes from Guna. BJP’s state unit president Narendra Singh Tomar has a tough fight from his rival Ashok Singh in Gwalior seat where Tomar is leading by a thin margin of 3,000 votes.
The BJP had won 16 seats, Congress 12 and BSP one in 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
