Denying allegations of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the Left regime was responsible for the chit fund scam, CPI(M) Politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said that only a CBI enquiry could reveal the truth.
“So what if they started operation during our time? Does that make us culprits. A lot of things started during the Left regime and lot of things ended too,” Bhattacharjee told reporters here.
“Everything will become clear if she (Mamata) agrees to a CBI enquiry today ... who took the money. We have nothing to hide. Those who have something to hide are giving these excuses,” he said.
Reminded about the Left during its regime also attacking the EC, he said “No I don't agree with this. There were differences with EC during our regime. But not like the present situation, when the Chief Minister who is also the supremo of the ruling party has declared an all out war against EC” he said.
Bhattacharjee also alleged that the state under the Trinamool Congress had reached economic stagnation. “The state has reached economic and industrial stagnation. Not a single investment has come under the new regime. What will the youth of the state do if there is no employment generation?”
Asked why he was attacked by his expelled party leaders like Rezzak Mollah and Lakhsman Seth, he replied, “Maybe because I belong to the top leadership. The RSS and corporate entities have joined hands which is dangerous. The RSS is a dangerous organisation, which doesn't believe in co-existence of other religions,”Bhattacharjee charged.

Asked about the verbal attack on EC by Banerjee, he said “This is condemnable. How can a constitutional head attack another constitutional body. This is shameful. During my tenure as CM, I have never used such words against the EC.”
