Bypolls on cards as 12 UP MLAs elected to Parliament

Of the 12 MLAs elected to Parliament, 11 belong to BJP and one to its ally Apna Dal

With as many as 12 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly winning the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, bypolls to these seats are on cards.

Of the 12 MLAs elected to Parliament, 11 belong to BJP and one to its ally Apna Dal. Besides, a Legislative Council seat also fell vacant with BJP leader of the House Nepal Singh being elected to the Lok Sabha from Rampur.

BJP MLAs who have won the just-concluded general election included party's leader of the House in Vidhan Sabha Hukum Singh from Kairana constituency, Raghav Lakhan Pal from Saharanpur and Kunwar Bhartendu Singh from Bijnore.

Other BJP MLAs to be elected as MPs are Mahesh Sharma from Guatam Buddh Nagar, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh from Moradabad, Ajay Misra (Teni) from Khiri, Uma Bharti from Jhansi, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti from Fatehpur, Keshav Maurya from Phulpur, Savitri Bai Phule from Bahraich and Kalraj Misra from Deoria.

Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel, who contested from the Mirzapur seat, also won the Lok Sabha polls and will have to vacate her Rohaniya Assembly seat.

The Assembly seats which will witness bypoll in the coming days included Prabudhnagar (Hukum Singh), Kheri (Ajay Mishra Teni), Mahoba (Uma Bharti), Lucknow East (Kalraj), Kaushambi (Keshav Maurya), Hamirpur (Sadhvi Niranjan), Bijnor (Bhartendu), Gautam Buddh Nagar (Mahesh), Saharanpur (Raghav), Moradabad (Kunwar Sarvesh) and Bahraich (Savitri Bai).

The by-elections to these seats will have to be held within six months.
