Objecting to telecast of Narendra Modi's roadshow in Varanasi when polling was on for the sixth phase, Congress on Thursday pressed the poll panel for registration of a first information report (FIR) against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

The party alleged that the Election Commission (EC)'s "inaction" on previous violations of code of conduct had given the saffron party an opportunity to flout the electoral laws. A delegation of Congress leaders visited EC and submitted a complaint in this regard.

Party spokesperson Anand Sharma dubbed it a "flagrant violation" and said "we do not want just issuing of notice. We want action."
