About 333 candidates for the 25 Lok Sabha seats and 2,243 candidates for the 175 assembly constituencies of Seemandhra region remained in the fray after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations pertaining to the eighth round of polls on May 7 ended today.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission had included 17 Lok Sabha and 119 Assembly constituencies of Telangana region in the seventh round of polls scheduled on April 30 and that of Seemandhra in the following round.
In Telangana, 265 candidates are in fray for the Lok Sabha polls while 1,669 candidates are in fray for the Assembly polls. According to state chief electoral officer Bhanwar Lal, a total number of 598 candidates to the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies and 3,912 candidates to the 294 Assembly constituencies of the undivided Andhra Pradesh have been contesting the polls.
