Following in the footsteps of his Sangh Parivar peers, Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam courted controversy on Monday with his remarks on Pakistan and Indian Muslims.
“Within six months of becoming the prime minister, (Narendra) Modi will take action against those Pakistanis who have beheaded our soldiers. (PM) Manmohan Singh and (Maharashtra CM) Prithviraj Chavan are shameless, but Modi will not spare those Pakistanis,” Kadam said at a rally here, in the presence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Kadam, who is a former leader of the opposition and current member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, also warned “Muslims who had vandalised police vehicles, damaged public property and attacked women police personnel during the Azad Maidan riots in August 2011 would not be spared”.
On Tuesday, Kadam backtracked from his statement.
