Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR), accompanied by party MLAs, MPs and other leaders, on Sunday met Andhra Pradesh governor ESL Narasimhan.

“We met the governor as a formality and conveyed to him our yesterday's decision (electing Chandrasekhar Rao as TRSLP leader),” TRS MLA E Rajender told mediapersons.

KCR is all set to become the chief minister of Telangana state as the TRS legislature party formally elected him as its leader on Saturday.

The TRS had won 63 out of the total 119 Assembly seats, four seats above the half-way mark, to be able to form the government. It also won 12 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in this region.

Being elected as the legislature party leader, KCR would now relinquish the Medak Lok Sabha constituency, which he won by over 200,000 vote and retain the Gajwel Assembly constituency, both from his home district of Medak.

The party would have to wait till the end of this month for the Governor's invitation to form the government since the state is currently under the President's rule, which would come to an end following the constitution of the new Assembly as well as the new state by the appointed day, June 2.

Briefing the legislature party decisions, TRS senior leader K Keshava Rao said welfare programmes, development of agriculture and job creation through industrial growth would be their government's priorities in that order. According to him, KCR has asked the newly-elected MLAs and MPs to maintain austerity and simplicity in public life.

“KCR wants to provide a clean and participative governance above the petty considerations of caste and creed or political corruption,” he said. The legislators authorised KCR to nominate the leader and office bearers of the TRS parliamentary party. However, the issue of the appointment of the deputy chief minister as promised in the elections was not discussed in the meeting, according to party leaders.

Seeks NDA help
As the state was newly-formed, it deserves a liberal assistance and help from the NDA government, Keshava Rao said while stating the party was looking forward to cooperation by the BJP-led government for the development of Telangana.
