In a state where women have been traditionally under-represented in political platforms, Gangte is the lone woman candidate.

The 51-year-old Kim Gangte was the first woman from the state to be elected to Parliament in 1998 as a CPI candidate.

Women's empowerment and socio-economic development of Manipur would be her priorities.

Unlike previous elections, electioneering was not visible with no public meetings or door-to-door canvassing.

The major issues were repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and development.

Of the electorate of 9,11,699 the number of women is 4,63,068. There are 511 polling booths.

BJP's Prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had addressed rallies in the valley districts. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had campaigned in the hill districts of Senapati and Tamenglong for NPF candidates.

Polling for the second seat in the state, Inner Manipur constituency (valley districts) will be held on April 17.
