There were pendals erected and good seating arrangements made. To add to the surprise, the visiting voters were offered flowers and chocolates making them wonder whether they had come to a marriage hall instead of a polling booth. Those waiting in queue were even offered cold butter milk to quench their thirst.
All these facilities were offered to the voters at this model voting centre set up by the Election Commission on an experimental basis.
It was the only such centre in the city. It was an effort by the Election Commission to attract more number of voters especially during the summer season. Seating arrangements indeed helped the aged and women voters to skip the long queues for voting. The officials at the polling centre were also seen providing good service with smiling face. This polling centre recorded nearly 45 per cent polling at around 12.45 pm.
The voters delighted to see a different kind of atmosphere here. However, those who rushed to the polling stations in the later hours as many of these facilities were not available for them. The students from Karnatak College, who worked as volunteers had assisted the officials to offer the facilities to the voters.
