The Narendra Modi government in Gujarat issued a detailed denial on Wednesday of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal's charge of the state's claims on growth being based on lies.
Instead, it said, it was Kejriwal was who lying, in a bid for publicity to bolster his poll campaign. The AAP chief is directly challenging Modi's candidature at Varanasi; he announced the decision a day earlier.
Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries (RIL) gave its rebuttal on Keriwal's accusations a collusion between it and Modi's government, at public expense. It said the facts were "completely opposite".
Kejriwal has been alleging through his election campaign that the claims of Modi, prime ministerial candidate of the major opposition grouping, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Gujarat's development did not match the reality. The AAP leader had travelled in Gujarat earlier this month and had posed 16 questions on various issues - health, education, farmer suicides and land acquisition, among others.
Kejriwal had also alleged Modi had recommended the central government raise the price of gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin, operated by RIL, to $16 a unit from the present $4 a unit.
