BJP leader Narendra Modi's first priority in the event of his becoming the Prime Minister should be to ensure the safety and security of women, especially those who have to venture out of their homes to work, BJP member Najma Heptulla said today.
"First priority I think Modiji will have is the safety and security of women who have been working out of the house. Entrepreneurs should also have safety and security of their life and property, that should be the priority," Heptulla said on the sidelines of a Ficci event here.
Heptulla was speaking at the Annual Session of Ficci Ladies Organisation (FLO) where she felicitated 11 most inspiring grassroot women entrepreneurs.
The compilation has been inspired by Modi's suggestion at FLO's Annual Session last year to document the achievements of women entrepreneurs so that they stand out as role models for women entrepreneurs in the country.
"This compilation is a humble attempt by FLO to recognise India's unsung women entrepreneurs and acknowledge the powerful role they play in helping build a better future for their families and communities, often while facing fierce challenges and difficulties," outgoing President of FLO Malvika Rai said.
The 11 women entrepreneurs who were felicitated at the Annual Session were Chetna Sinha, a social entrepreneur; Laxmi Lokhande who makes brooms and ropes; Latha Gowri who has a business of selling saris and dress material besides running community radio; Anusuya Khopade who stitches school uniforms and makes agarbattis.
Among others are:Manorama Devi who runs a cosmetic shop and a self help group (SHG); Anuradha Pegu runs a hand-woven cloth business; Kumari Bindu S who sells ayurvedic products; S Narayanamma who rears milch animals and runs a leather business; Janaki Ben who makes khakaras; Afsana who is a dairy farmer; and Jamna Sultanpuri runs wholesale business of clothing material.
"We will facilitate women in growing their enterprises to achieve economic empowerment of women," Neeta Boochra, who took over as the new President of FLO said.
Boochra is an Executive Committee member of the SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneurship Council from India. She is also the Executive Director of Indo Gem Exporters.
