Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections from the Azamgarh constituency.
Apart from Azamgarh, the SP chief is also contesting from the Mainpuri seat in Uttar Pradesh.
Mulayam's decision to contest from two Lok Sabha seats is being seen as a counter to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who is also contesting from Varanasi in UP and Vadodara in Gujarat.
