About 80 per cent voters turned up on Thursday to elect their representatives in the second of the five-phase Lok Sabha election in six constituencies in the northern part of the West Bengal.According to the Election Commission, the overall voting percentage in six constituencies spread over the districts of Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda and Murshidabad districts was around 80 per cent till 5 pm. However, the final figure could be higher.
Murshidabad constituency recorded the highest turn out at 82.24, while Balurghat, Jangipur, Raiganj, Maldaha Uttar and Maldaha Dakshin recorded 82.86 per cent, 76.93 per cent, 76 per cent, 80.16 and 80.76 per cent respectively.
High-profile candidates in the second round of polling in Bengal include Mausam Benazir Noor (Congress candidate from Maldah North seat) and President Pranab Mukherjee's son, Abhijit (Congress candidate from Jangipur seat). In Raigunj central minister Deepa Dasmunshi, former Union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi's wife, is up against , CPI(M) central committee member Mohammad Salim.
