All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday reiterated that it was the iron will of the Congress party that turned the dream of Telangana into a reality.

“It is only the Congress that can develop Telangana, and it’s the national party's commitment to bring justice to all sections of society in the region,” Gandhi said at a public meeting at Chevella in Rangareddy district today.

Taking potshots at Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), she said the party had been resorting to opportunistic politics. “We had worked hard in bringing all the parties under one roof, and underwent hardships to make Telangana a reality,” the AICC president said.

Later, addressing a public meeting at Andhole in Medak district, Sonia thanked the people of Medak for supporting late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who represented the constituency from 1980 till 1984.

“I wish the people of the constituency would extend a similar support to the Congress now, which had put in a lot of hardships to give a separate Telangana state,” she said.

Lashing out at the TRS yet again, she accused its president K Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) of not being present in the House when the Telangana Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha.

“Chief minister’s seat is the only aim of KCR. The derogatory remarks being made by TRS leaders and the unparliamentary language being used by them would further create more differences,” she said.

Meanwhile, actor-turned-politician and Jana Sena party president Pawan Kalyan today said he would strive hard for a 'new' Telangana. Though both the states got separated, all Telugu people should live together, he said.

Sharing the dais with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu at a public meeting at Kandukur in Maheshwaram constituency of Rangareddy district, Pawan Kalyan said he would track information related to the constituency through Jana Sena activists not after five years but once in three months.

“Ours (TDP, BJP and Jana Sena) is a grand alliance with a single mantra of ‘development’ and a single slogan of ‘Congress Hatao’,” he said.
