Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday called Narendra Modi a ‘RSS pick’ for the prime ministerial candidate which BJP has accepted.
Taking on Modi on his home turf, Yadav accused Modi and BJP of divisive politics and said that people will stop them as they need a secular government at the Centre.
Yadav was in Patan district of Gujarat on Monday to address a public rally in support of Samajwadi Party candidates fielded in north Gujarat.
“The PM contender from Gujarat has been selected by RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal and then accepted by the BJP,” Yadav said speaking at the Ahmedabad airport. He also said that there was an age old connection between the two states political and spiritual.
Making an oblique reference to Modi, Yadav said, “Whatever claim any one makes, but in UP Samajwadi Party will stop the BJP and people will stop the party’s PM contender. Nation wants a government that is secular and has a socialist vision.”
“It is because of the bad policies of the Congress-led government that the BJP has become visible. I believe that Third front will make government at the centre and Samajwadi Party and Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) will have an important role to play in its formation,” he added.
Warning the people of Gujarat against the divisive politics of BJP, Yadav said, “BJP people are ‘chalu’ (shrewd). They are the same people who had once claimed that idols had started drinking milk.”
Yadav also claimed that there was more development in UP than in Gujarat.
He talked about distribution of laptop computers to students, free irrigation water to farmers and education related schemes.
