A day after the final phase of polling in the state, Chhattisgarh Government Friday notified its decision to raise dearness allowance (DA) to 100 per cent from existing 90 per cent.
“The state government had decided to release an additional installment of DA to the state government employees and pensioners with effect from January 1, 2014,” a government spokesperson said. This would entitle the employees and pensioners for DA at the rate of 100 per cent of their basic.
It is the second double digit DA hike in a row. The government had announced a hike of 10 per cent taking it up to 90 per cent in September last year. The order came into effect from July 1, 2013.
Though it could not be known how much extra burden the state exchequer would bore in connection with the DA hike, it would benefit about 250,000 state government employees. The order would be effective for the employees drawing salary under the University Grant Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education.
About 80,000 pensioners in Chhattisgarh would also be entitled for 100 per cent DA, the spokesperson said.
The decision had elated the state government employees and pensioners. The Chhattisgarh government was reportedly waiting for the completion of election process in the state to offer DA sop to its employees.
The state went to the third and final phase of polling on April 24.
