About 45,000 officers and personnel of Haryana Police assisted by 20,000 Home Guard Volunteers and ex-servicemen have been deployed for free, fair and peaceful conduct of Lok Sabha elections in the state on Thursday.
As many as 230 candidates are contesting the elections in the state, including 11 female candidates. The maximum number of 41 candidates are contesting from Hisar parliamentary constituency whereas the least number of 14 candidates are contesting from Ambala and Rohtak parliamentary constituencies respectively.
The Haryana Director-General of Police Shriniwas Vashisht stated on Wednesday 74 coys of central paramilitary forces have been deployed, which include force from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force, Railway Protection Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Gujarat Armed Police, J & K Armed Police, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary and Mahila CRPF. At least one personnel of Haryana Police and one Home Guard Volunteer have been deployed on every booth. Also, paramilitary forces have been stationed on all sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths. Patrolling parties and sector magistrates have also been pressed in service in large number to ensure peaceful polling and maintenance of law and order, he added.
He said borders of the state have been sealed through more than 100 inter-state barriers which are working day and night to prevent any movement of arms, liquor or cash, etc, from outside Haryana. Besides, over 350 nakas have been established within the state.
Vashisht said earlier, with a view to ensure peaceful elections, Haryana Police launched a special campaign to arrest proclaimed offenders (POs), bail jumpers, parole jumpers, most-wanted criminals, bad characters and outlaws against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued. Unearthing of illicit arms was undertaken and movement of illicit liquor as well as Narcotics substances was also checked. As a result, 830 POs and bail jumpers, 30 most-wanted criminals and 938 bad characters have been apprehended and 7,413 non-bailable warrants have been executed.
The Police also caught 259 illicit arms, 85,138 bottles of liquor as well as seized cash worth Rs1,28,75,520 and 798.8 g of gold. Moreover, 98,788 licensed weapons have been got deposited in police stations, Vashisht added.
He said a special wireless communication grid has been created to ensure seamless communication on polling day. Telephone lines in Police Control Rooms have been increased to provide immediate access to police help.
In case, any person needs help, he can contact the police authorities on 100 for immediate response.
