Vibrant Gujarat is full of vibrant lies: Sibal

Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday termed BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi a man adept at telling lies and distorting facts.

"For the last few years, he had been talking of the Sardar Sarovar Project, as if it was his own project, and said thatwith that he changed the face of Gujarat. The truth is that it was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who gave sanction to the project in 1961. It was implemented in 1985, and then there was an agitation which went to the Supreme Court, and in 2000, the judgement came out that the height will be 138 metres, and Modi was not in the picture at all. In Saurashtra, where sub- canals were supposed to be created, they did not even reach the farmers, who committed suicide. Water which was supposed to reach farmers, is instead sold to industrial houses. The state administration has been instructed not to mention the reasons when a farmer commits suicide or denies an unnatural death. Therefore, Vibrant Gujarat is full of vibrant lies. The administration there is run by a man for whom distorting facts is a daily routine," Sibal said.
