Expressing satisfaction over the UDF's performance of winning 12 of the 20 seats in Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said the victory was an endorsement of the policies and programmes of his Government.

Reacting to the outcome, Chandy said Kerala was the only state which went against the national trend as reflected by the polls.

The Chief Minister said his government would work in co-operation with the new government at the Centre without compromising on the basic ideals of the Congress party.

Chandy recalled that when the Vajapayee-led NDA was in power, UDF led by A K Antony was in power in Kerala and that government had functioned in co-operation with the Centre. The same line will be followed by the present government to secure the larger interests of the state.

He expressed confidence that the Congress would regain its glory as the party had done after its defeat on earlier occasions. The party would discharge its duty as responsible opposition under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, he said.

On questions of UDF tally going down from 16 in 2009 to 12 this time, Chandy admitted that there were some dissatisfaction on issues like price rise. However, the state government had done all that it could do within its powers like forgoing local taxes whenever petroleum prices were increased.

Meanwhile, KPCC president V M Sudheeran said the LDF's defeat in majority of constituencies was blow to the "politics of arrogance of the CPI-M".
