Ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls in October-November, the Election Commission (EC) on Friday ordered the transfer of Bihar home secretary Amir Subhani, nine district magistrates and seven senior police officials, including senior superintendents of police and superintendents of police (SPs). The EC said those transferred from districts should not be posted to any election-related post.

It also asked the state chief secretary to send the poll body with a ‘compliance report’ within 24 hours along with copies of transfer orders. The EC appointed Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, a 1983-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, the new home secretary.

Since Subhani was also the secretary in-charge of the general administration department, the EC said the state government could post any other secretary-rank officer to the post. It said Subhani “may be given any other assignment /post by the state government, as deemed fit.”
