BJP wins 16 seats so far in MP, govt on firm wicket

The BJP won 16 seats till Tuesday night out of the 28 assembly constituencies where bypolls were held in Madhya Pradesh, giving it a comfortable majority in the House and providing stability to its eight-month-old government in the state.
 
The results have also come as a shot in the arm for former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who took a big political risk by quitting the Congress and joining the BJP in March.
 
With most of his loyalists winning the November 3 bypolls, Scindia, a Rajya Sabha MP, will look to cement his place in the BJP.
 
BJP candidates are leading with comfortable margins in three other assembly seats.

BJP minister Imarti Devi loses bypoll in Madhya Pradesh

In a setback to the BJP, its woman minister in Madhya Pradesh Imarti Devi lost bypoll from the Dabra assembly seat on Tuesday, an election official said.
 
Congress candidate Suresh Raje defeated Imarti Devi, considered a loyalist of BJP Rajya Sabha member Jyotiraditya Scindia, by a margin of 7,633 votes, the official said.

Manipur bypolls: BJP wins 3 seats, Independent 1

The BJP won all three Assembly constituencies where the party contested in the by-elections in Manipur, while an Independent candidate backed by the saffron camp secured one seat, the results of which were announced on Tuesday, officials said.
 
In a closely fought bypoll in Wangoi seat, ruling BJP's candidate Oinam Lukhoi Singh defeated coalition partner National People's Party nominee Khuraijam Loken Singh by 257 votes.
 
BJP's nominee Paonam Brojen Singh won the Wangjing Tentha constituency by a margin of 1,560 votes, defeating his nearest Congress rival Moirangthem Hemanta Singh.

BJP sweeps bypolls in Karnataka and Telangana

The ruling BJP on Tuesday swept the bypolls to two assembly seats in Karnataka by wresting them from the opposition Congress and JD(S) and stunned the ruling TRS in neighbouring Telangana by snatching the Dubbak segment held by it.
 
The saffron party's performance in Karnataka has given a boost to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's stock amid talks about his replacement in some quarters while its Telangana win will be a morale-booster ahead of the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls.
 
In Karnataka's Sira, BJP created a history of sorts by recording its first ever victory there, while in the bitterly fought Dubbak elections, it reversed its electoral fortunes by winning a seat it lost to the the K Chandasekar Rao-led TRS in the general elections in 2018.

Odisha bypolls: BJD wrests Balasore from BJP, retains Tirtol

The ruling BJD in Odisha on Tuesday wrested the Balasore assembly seat from the BJP and retained Tirtol in the bypolls held last week, with its candidates beating the BJP nominees and pushing the Congress to the third place.
 
As the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidates emerged victories in both the assembly segments, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his gratitude to the people for exercising their franchise amid the Covid-19 pandemic and supporting his party.
 
In Balasore, BJD candidate Swarup Kumar Das defeated his nearest BJP nominee Manas Kumar Dutta by a margin of 13,351 votes. Das bagged 84,097 votes while Dutta polled 70,746 votes, Chief Electoral Officer S K Lohani said.

People reposed faith in Modi's leadership: Nadda on bypoll results

BJP president JP Nadda on Tuesday attributed the party's victory in assembly bypolls in various states to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and congratulated respective chief ministers and heads of the party's state units.
 
In a series of tweets, Nadda said people across the country have reposed faith in Prime Minister Modi's leadership and the welfare work done by the Centre and state governments.
 
Nadda also congratulated chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karanataka and Manipur and presidents of the BJP's respective state units.

Jolt for TRS as BJP wins Dubbak Assembly bypoll in Telangana

In a boost to the BJP in Telangana, the party on Tuesday won the bypoll held to the Dubbak Assembly constituency, defeating the ruling TRS by a margin of 1,079 votes.
 
"BJP candidate won by 1,079 votes," Siddipet district Collector Bharati Hollikeri told PTI over phone.
 
In a close contest, BJP's M Raghunandan Rao got 63,352 votes, while the TRS nominee secured 62,273 votes.
 
Cheruku Srinivas Reddy of the Congress finished third with 22,196 votes.
 
The counting of votes reminded one of a T-20 cricket match as the lead position kept changing between the BJP and TRS, but the saffron party candidate had the last laugh.

By-election result 2020 LIVE: Diwali seems to have arrived a few days early for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. Even as counting of votes is underway in Assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and in 8 other states, the saffron party has managed to pull a magnificent lead in a majority of seats across the states. In Madhya Pradesh bypolls, the ruling party is leading in 20 of the 28 Assembly constituencies for which by-elections were held, while the Congress is ahead in seven seats. In Gujarat, Karnataka and Telangana, BJP has won in all the eight, two and one seats, respectively. In Manipur, BJP candidate Oinam Lukhoi Singh won the by-election to the Wangoi seat, while saffron party candidates were leading from two other constituencies and an Independent from one.
 
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress retained both Dumka and Bermo Assembly seats for which bypolls were held. JMM candidate Basant Soren won the Dumka seat, defeating BJP candidate and former Minister Louis Marandi by over 6,000 votes. Basant Soren secured 79,964 votes and Louis Marandi got 73,524 votes.

The Congress won in Haryana's Baroda Assembly bypoll, which was necessitated after the demise of the sitting Congress MLA.
