PM Modi congratulates AAP on Punjab win, assures Centre's support for state's welfare

As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) registered a historic win in Punjab Assembly polls by winning a three-fourths majority with 92 seats, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated the party and assured all possible support from the Centre for the state's welfare.
 
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said, "I would like to congratulate AAP for their victory in the Punjab elections. I assure all possible support from the Centre for Punjab's welfare."
 
Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party has retained power in four states- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur.
 
Punjab Chief Minister-elect Bhagwant Mann has won from Sangrur district's Dhuri assembly constituency by a margin of 58,206 votes over Congress' Dalvir Singh Goldy. He announced that his oath-taking ceremony will be held at Khatkarkalan in Nawanshahr district, the ancestral village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

UP polls: Yogi Adityanath wins Gorakhpur Urban seat with massive margin of over 1 lakh votes

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Yogi Adityanath won Gorakhpur Urban seat with a massive margin of over 1 lakh votes.
 
His victory comes as the BJP has secured the majority in Uttar Pradesh. The counting of the votes polled in assembly elections is still underway.
 
According to the Election Commission of India, Adityanath, who is contesting the Assembly elections for the first time, received 1,03,390 votes against his nearest rival SP candidate Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla.

All 5 BJP MLAs retain seat in Ghaziabad, S K Sharma sets 2.14 lakh win margin record

All five BJP MLAs, including minister Atul Garg, retained their seats in Ghaziabad, even as Sunil Kumar Sharma, contesting from Sahibabad constituency, won with a record 2.14 lakh vote margin, poll results showed on Thursday.
 
Sharma got 3.22 lakh (or 67.03 per cent) of the total votes counted, defeating his nearest rival Amarpal Sharma of the Samajwadi Party who polled 1.08 lakh votes, the Election Commission website showed.
 
In 2017, Sharma was the biggest winner in terms of vote margin. His victory margin was over 1.50 lakh then.
 
Atul Garg, a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government, retained his Ghaziabad seat with a victory margin of 1.05 lakh votes over nearest rival SP's Vishal Verma.
 
Garg got 1.50 lakh (or 61.37 per cent) of total votes counted, while Verma bagged 44,668 (or 18.25 per cent) votes, EC data showed.

Akhilesh keeps eye on results from party office, no comment from him yet

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav remained in the party office till Thursday evening monitoring the poll results in which his party led alliance lost to the BJP-headed coalition.
 
There was no comment from him on the poll outcome till late night on Thursday.
 
Party's national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary told PTI that Yadav had come to the office around 11.00 in the morning, and remained there throughout the day. He left for home in the evening.

Congress will be 'wiped out' from India shortly: Yediyurappa

Senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa on Thursday said after its rout in the assembly elections to five states, the Congress party will be wiped out of the country shortly.
 
Addressing reporters, the BJP stalwart said, "Of the five states where elections were held, the Congress was in power in only in Punjab. There also they lost their ground. This indicates that the Congress will be wiped out of the country shortly."

Respect public opinion: RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary on UP poll results

Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chuadhary on Thursday said he respected the public opinion after his alliance with the Samajwadi Party lost the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.
 
The RLD had fielded candidates on 33 seats in western Uttar Pradesh and won eight of them, according to information on the Election Commission website.
 
"I respect public opinion. Congratulations to all the winning MLAs! It is expected that they will work according to the trust of the people. The workers have worked hard, and the struggle will continue!" the RLD chief tweeted in Hindi.

TMC's high decibel campaign in Goa fizzles to a nought

Voters in Goa have poured cold water, at least for now, on the Trinamool Congress' plans to expand reach beyond West Bengal and emerge as a national party challenging the BJP, PTI reported. Its show in the Goa election failed to match the noise it created while entering the poll fray, with zero seat to show. Even its pre-poll partner, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), has extended its hand in support of the BJP that ahs just touched the majority mark winning 20 of the 40 seats in the state. The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) gained prominence when it inducted former Goa chief minister Luizinho Faleiro and tennis superstar Leander Paes into its fold.With the slogan Goenchi Navi Sakal (New Dawn for Goa), it had launched a high decibel campaign, mainly run by Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC).

BJP wins Manipur, CM yet to be decided

The Bharatiya Janata Party coasted to a clear victory in the insurgency-ridden northeastern state of Manipur, picking up 32 seats in a house of 60.
 
The opposition Congress in one of its worst ever performance, was reduced to just 5 seats from having the single largest party status in the 2017 elections, though it's former three-times chief minister O Ibobi Singh pulled off a victory from the Thoubal seat.
 
The Janata Dal (United) which had not won a seat in the previous election and the National People's Party (NPP) won six seats each, while the Naga People's Front too bagged five seats till 9 pm, according to the Election Commission.
 
The Kuki People's Alliance won two seats. Three seats were won by Independent candidates.Independent candidates. Only one seat is yet to be decided where the NPP is leading.
 
BJP's vote share this time round was a massive 37.8 per cent. Congress despite its poor showing managed a respectable 16.8 per cent.

Punjab elections 2022: Among 13 winning women candidates, 11 belong to AAP

Thirteen of the 93 women who contested the Punjab polls tasted victory and 11 of them belong to the Aam Aadmi Party, which registered a landslide win bagging 92 of the 117 assembly seats.
 
Most of the AAP women candidates who won are greenhorns.
 
From Amritsar East, Jeevanjyot Kaur of AAP defeated Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu by a margin of 6,750 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia was also contesting from the seat, but he ended up at the third spot.
 
However, Majithia's wife Ganieve Kaur tasted victory from Majitha seat, from where she had entered the fray after her husband, a sitting MLA from there, decided to leave the seat and contest from Amritsar East.

People rejected Oppn's narrow-minded politics, says UP Dy CM Dinesh Sharma on state poll results

With the BJP set to return to power in Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive term, Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma Thursday said the voters have rejected the Opposition's narrow-minded politics and put their approval stamp on the saffron party's double engine government, PTI reported. After 3 decades of influencing UP politics, BSP relegated to margins

After being an influential player in Uttar Pradesh politics for three decades, Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party has been relegated to the margins with the party set to witness its poorest performance ever in assembly polls.
 
The party had won 19 seats in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls and had managed a vote share of over 21 per cent. But this time, the BSP has been restricted to single digits with a vote share of 12.73 per cent.
 
When the BSP formed a government in Uttar Pradesh in 2007, it had bagged 206 seats and a vote share of 30.43 per cent. Read on...

Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, UP, Manipur Election Results 2022 Live Updates: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to retain power in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured a landslide victory in Punjab.

The AAP is the first regional party which will form a government in another state apart from New Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh election result 2022 LIVE updates: All set to form a majority government for the second time in a row in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has managed to increase its vote share despite a loss of over 50 seats from its tally of 2017.

The BJP had won 312 of the 384 seats contested by it in the 2017 assembly elections and its vote share was 39.67 per cent.

Till 9.30 pm, the BJP had won 216 seats and was leading in 39 others with a vote share of 41.4 per cent, according to the Election Commission of India website.

Going by this, the BJP is expected to get 255 seats this time around which will be a loss of 57 seats when compared to its 2017 tally, even as the party's vote share has increased.

Uttarakhand election result 2022 LIVE: The BJP has so far won 45 Assembly seats in Uttarakhand and leads in two more, while the Congress has emerged victorious in 17 seats and leads in two more. The BSP has one a seat and leads in one more, while Independent candidates have bagged two seats.

Though heading for a big win for a second consecutive term in Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) tally seems to be shrinking by around 10 seats. It had won 57 seats in the 2017 Uttarakhand Assembly polls.

The Congress on the other hand has improved its performance by winning 17 seats and leading in two more. It had won 11 seats in 2017 against the BJP's historic score of 57 out of a total of 70 Assembly seats in the state.

Goa election results 2022 LIVE updates: Overcoming anti-incumbency, the BJP has emerged as the single largest party in Goa by winning 20 assembly seats, just one shy of the halfway mark, and has enlisted the support of regional outfit MGP and three Independent MLAs to form its government for a third consecutive term in the state.
