Jayalalithaa has filed nomination to contest from R K Nagar constituency, where she was elected in 2015 by-election. The 68-year-old leader became the Chief Minister of the State once again after the by-election. She submitted the nomination today after noon to contest again from the constituency.
M Karunanidhi, who was followed by a large group of DMK leaders and followers, including former union Minister Dayanidhi Maran, submitted his nomination today afternoon for the Tiruvarur Assembly constituency, where he won in the 2011 elections. This is his home town. The 93-year-old leader, who started his campaign for election on Saturday in Chennai, will address the voters today evening in another meeting in the district.

According to the details available with the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, a total of 295 candidates including 261 male and 34 female candidates have submitted their nominations in various constituencies so far. The state, with 234 assembly constituencies, is going for election on May 16, 2016.
