Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today filed his nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, accompanied by BJP chief Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and a galaxy of NDA leaders including Nitish Kumar, Ram Vilas Paswan, Parkash Singh Badal and Uddhav Thackeray. Modi won Varanasi constituency in the 2014 general election. The constituency will vote in the seventh phase of the seven-phase 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Meanwhile, Congress President Rahul Gandhi's to Patna was forced to return to Delhi after experiencing "engine trouble". Gandhi wrote this on Twitter and also posted a video of the flight which shows him, the pilot and co-pilot in the plane.
"Engine trouble on our flight to Patna today! We've been forced to return to Delhi," Gandhi tweeted.
"Today's meetings in Samastipur (Bihar), Balasore (Orissa) & Sangamner (Maharashtra) will run late. Apologies for the inconvenience," he said.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, in an interview, slammed Congress for not trying to stop BJP from forming the government at the Centre.
He also that the SP and BJP have sacrificed seats in the national interest.
"Our intention is clear right from the word go. We formed an alliance (with BSP and RLD) to stop the communal party and in the process, we in the SP and also the BSP had to sacrifice seats in the national interest," he said.
“But, the Congress' agenda in the ongoing parliamentary polls is not to stop the BJP from forming the next government at the Centre. They are working for making the next UP chief minister in 2022 (when the next assembly polls are due)” Akhilesh said.
