Mizoram polls: Mizoram People's Conference MLA joins Mizo National Front

Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) received a shot in the arm Monday with the lone Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) legislator Lalthanliana joining it ahead of the November 28 state assembly election.

MNF now has six legislators in the 40-member Mizoram legislative.

Lalthanliana, who had won the prestigious Aizawl North-II seat in 2013 by defeating the then finance minister and treasurer of the ruling Congress H Liansailova, was welcomed into the MNF by its leader Zoramthanga.

Congress leader R Lalzirliana, who had resigned as home minister and also from the state assembly also formally joined the MNF today.

Earlier, another Congress legislator Lalrinliana Sailo, former minister and member of the AICC and general secretary of the state PCC had also left the ruling party and had joined the MNF.

The present strength of the state legislature is 38 after resignation of the two Congress legislators. The ruling party has 32 legislators and the MNF six.

Lalzirliana, the expelled vice-president of the state PCC, told the MNF workers present at the party office when he was formally inducted into the party that a minister and a ruling party legislator would resign tomorrow but did not name them.
