Banking operations hit in Raj as PSU bank staff go on strike

Around 5,000 branches of public sector banks remained closed following the nationwide strike

Banking transactions worth Rs 2,500 crore are estimated to be affected in Rajasthan as employees started a two-day strike today, demanding a revision in wages.

Around 5,000 branches of public sector banks remained closed following the nationwide strike call by bank unions to press for their demand of wage revisions.

"Thirty thousand bank employees in the state are participating in the national level strike. Ten lakh cheques worth Rs 1,600 crore will not be cleared during two days and an overall banking business worth Rs 2,500 crore will be impacted in two days in Rajasthan," Mahesh Mishra, General Secretary of All India Bank Employees Association (Raj), said.

He said the bank officers and other employees today gathered at Ambedkar circle to hold a demonstration.
