Bank of Baroda (BoB) on Monday launched the Baroda Premium Current Account (BPCA) scheme, which will offer a free credit card, free demand drafts, a free personal accident insurance cover, free fund transfers and other benefits.

The service has been launched in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Indore and Ludhiana.

Individuals, partnership companies, limited companies and large corporates, excluding banks and financial institutions can open BPCA accounts. Available in two types, those with an average quarterly balance of Rs 1-3 lakh can open a BPCA account.

V Sheshadri, assistant general manager, BoB, said customers who have maintained an average quarterly balance of Rs 1-3 lakh will automatically be transferred to the BPCA category.

Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Shreyas Pandya, who inaugurated the scheme in Ahmedabad, said that while private sector banks have marched ahead in providing services because of adoption of technology, public sector banks too need to provide quick services.

"Public sector banks are still in the process of upgrading technology and this will happen soon," he said.

Sheshadri said that since such services are closely related to technology upgradation, BoB has chalked out plans to bring all branches under the core banking solutions by December 31.

"BoB has been aggressively working towards bringing in core banking solutions and other changes, so that clearing and other procedures are done quickly," the official said.

Sheshadri appealed to business clients of the bank to take advantage of the new services so that it can be extended to as many clients as possible.
