The nationwide strike by Bank of Rajasthan (BoR) employees against its proposed merger with the ICICI Bank entered its second day on Saturday, affecting transactions at over 400 of its branches across the country.
Around 800 BoR employees took out a rally from MI Road branch of the bank here to its central office at Sardar Patel Marg in a protest demonstration against the proposed merger and threatened to intensify their agitation if needed.
“The entire bank — 467 branches, 12 regional offices, Jaipur’s central office and Mumbai’s corporate office — is closed. This will be followed by a three-day strike starting from June 17,” United Forum of Bank of Rajasthan Unions convenor Gopal Das Gupta said.
“The employees will go on an indefinite strike after that, if needed,” he added.
The strike had affected transactions of around Rs 1,000 crore across the country over the last two days, he claimed.
Meanwhile, ruling Congress party MLA Prapat Singh Khachariyawas also addressed the employees and said he would seek support of rest of the MLAs from all the parties and the state chief minister to protect the interest of the bank employees.
Around 4,200 employees of the bank had begun their two-day nationwide strike yesterday against the proposed merger.
