While foreign banks cut down staffs in investment banking and equity broking, Indian counterparts keep strengthening their teams. Anand Rathi, one of the leading financial institutions, has hired Anil Kakani as an executive director of cross-border initiatives.

Kakani, who was part of the Obama administration and worked in a senior position in the US Treasury Department, will work along with investment banking CEO Praveen Chakravarty.

Prior to joining Rathi, Anil was Senior Advisor for India to Secretary Geithner at the US Department of the Treasury, a position he was recruited for to build the US-India Economic and Financial Partnership (EFP) with India's Finance Ministry.

In that role, Anil spearheaded the highest level economic policy summit ever between the US and India by bringing together both finance ministers, central bank governors, securities and commodities regulators, and other key economic policy principals.

Kakani had deepened ongoing bilateral engagement in three priority areas: macroeconomic financial sector reforms, infrastructure finance and capital markets.

Before moving to Capitol Hill, Anil served as senior advisor to then Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Jack Lew. He has a Master's Degree in Public Policy from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, a law degree from the University of Arizona College of Law, and is admitted to the State Bar of California.

Kakani also travelled to India as part of the White House team during President Bill Clinton's visit during year 2000.
