Ravneet Gill's appointment as the chief executive of Deutsche Bank in India is hardly a surprise. He has been successfully steering several of the bank's businesses here over last two decades.
Gill has been one of the most trusted senior management colleagues of Gunit Chadha, the former chief executive of Deutsche Bank in India, not only at work, but also outside the office.
"We were playing a cricket match against the Birlas. I was made the captain of the Deutsche team. I told Ravneet, “you captain the side when we field and I will be the captain when we bat.” It was part of my dive-in, float-out approach, which I also practise at work," Chadha said with a grin as he explained his 'hands-on, hands-off' attitude during a recent interview with Business Standard.
At Deutsche Bank, Gill has captained several teams across businesses, including structured financing, foreign exchange, transaction banking, risk management, and private banking.
He joined the bank in the private wealth management business in 1991, and shifted to the corporate banking a couple of years later. Gill became the head of corporate banking coverage in 2003 and held that position till 2008.
Then, he was appointed the head of coverage for global markets, and was instrumental in building a dominant flow franchise, to complement the platform's structured product capabilities.
