The Central Cooperative Banks (CCBs) in Orissa have recently received about Rs 656.70 crore towards claims under Debt Relief Scheme (DRS) of 2008, announced by the Centre.
The amount received by the CCBs in the state is almost 50 per cent of the total claims by all the 17 CCBs under the scheme and this amount was released to the respective banks last week by the Centre. The total amount of debt waiver under DRS of all the CCBs in the state was estimated at Rs 1,313. 41crore.
With the release of the amount by the Centre under the DRS scheme, the CCBs have got relief from financial burden, said a senior officer of Orissa State Cooperative Bank , the bank monitoring the CCBs in the state. The Centre had announced the release of about 50 per cent of the total debt relief amount to the banks in the wake of meltdown in the market.
CCB, Cuttack received the highest amount of Rs 128.07 crore under the scheme, followed by Anugul at Rs 58.16 crore and Sambalpur (over Rs 57 crore).
Similarly, CCB Aska has got Rs 20.55 crore as against its total claim of Rs 41.10 crore while the CCBs in Balasore and Banki got Rs 55.31 crore and Rs 15.26 crore respectively.
CCB, Berhampur received Rs 42.67 crore as against its total claim of Rs 85.34 crore, while the CCBs in Bhawanaipatna, Bolangir and Boudh got Rs 10.26 crore, Rs 52.80 crore and Rs 18.29 crore respectively.
