A recent attempt by fraudsters who created a fake website of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), triggering panic among both customers and authorities, could have originated from the US, a top IBA official said.
“Investigating agencies have informed us that this particular fake website could have been hosted from the US. However, any confirmation in this regard is yet to be availed,” the official said on condition of anonymity. On July 6, IBA found that “some fraudsters” are sending phishing messages to bank customers across the country using a link —https://bsmedia.business-standard.com www.iba.org.in/startpage.asp, asking for their bank IDs and passwords.
A senior police officer confirmed the US connection.
