Both these banks would be presented with cash awards of Rs 5 lakh each by the Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha at a function to be held at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi on July 12, the foundation day of Nabard.
Singh said the awards were instituted by Nabard in 1996 in a bid to motivate the functionaries of cooperative credit institutions to excel in their performance and also to inculcate the spirit of competitiveness. Meanwhile, the award for dry land areas has been instituted from the current year, he added.
