Gujarat To Empower Co-Op Banks

The Gujarat government has already worked out a legal way to attach properties of the defaulters and guilty directors of co-operative banks in crisis which so far, could not be done by the banks at stake till state government appointed Administrator initiates such harsh step.

Sources also said on Tuesday, Minister of Co-operation and Protocol, Vadibhai Patel will hold a discussion with Chief Minister, Narendra Modi to finalise the draft which will be passed in the very next session of state Assembly.

Meanwhile, the state government is yet to be passed on the report and subsequent instruction for assigning an Administrator at Co-operative Bank of Ahmedabad Limited till this evening following which the fate of the bankwhich has been forced to withdraw itself from clearing house, could not be decided while depositors whose money are still lying in the bank, gathered in front of the branches even on Monday with anxious faces.

Reports about irregularities in the Janta Co-operative Bank Limited in Nadiad also did not reach the state Co-operation Department officials till Monday evening, though the Minister, Vadibhai told on Saturday that the issues related to these two banks would be sorted by Monday.
