Private non-life insurer HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company has launched an agriculture sector-focused product, the Kisan Sarva Suraksha Kawach policy, for those engaged in the agriculture sector.
This provides coverage against wide range of perils for various assets of farmers and others in the agriculture production chain. Under a single policy, farmers can cover themselves and their dependent families, which include non-earning spouse and first two children, their owned livestock which includes animal-driven cart.
They can also cover their equipment including agricultural pump-sets which are crucial for farmers to draw water from its source and release it to the crop. This also includes their personal assets such as house, including its contents and agriculture produce.
The policy also covers eventualities such as fire including forest fire, flood, storm, earthquake, burglary and housebreaking. The coverage under this policy is not limited to the farmers actively engaged in cultivation; but can also be bought by agricultural traders, shop owners and families living in rural areas.
