Idbi Bank Plans Gujarat Spread

IDBI Bank, which already has a presence in major cities such as Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat, has chalked up plan to open new branches and offsite ATMs in Gujarat.

The bank is also going to introduce its international debit card soon. As a strategy to reach out to more customers in the retail segment, the bank, unlike other private banks in the state which have branches only in upmarket areas, is coming up with branches and offsite ATMs in middle-class areas.

The bank is also offering freebies on savings account, including monthly statement by e-mail, and transfer of funds electronically across branches.

The bank also has chalked up flexible terms and conditions for people willing to take home loans in Gujarat, where one year after the devastating earthquake, real estate market, once again has started booming.

"We have a target of opening five more branches in Gujarat before September 30 and a large number of offsite ATMs to tap retail customers in the state, which has one of the best market potential for us, next to Punjab. After making our presence in Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Navsari, besides, Ahmedabad, we are also opening a branch in Rajkot and two offsite ATMs before September 30, this year," said Ramesh NGS, head (retail) of IDBI Bank.

The bank has decided to open a new branch in Ahmedabad, which will its fourth in the city. "We are targeting the salaried class and for them we have introduced lot of services once they open a savings account with us. Besides, we have also made the terms and conditions for housing loans and personal loans for this category, flexible and easier," said Ramesh.

"That is why we are reaching in the areas having a domination of middle-class and salaried people. We have recently opened a branch in Ghatlodia in Ahmedabad and another is to opened by mid-August in Gurukul area, both of the areas are dominated by middle-class," Ramesh said.

IDBI Bank has also introduced new current account products in Gujarat on June 27 which have been generating tremendous response. "We have been getting tremendous response from the business community in Gujarat after launching these services. With the launch of international debit card, we will be able to enjoy company of more customers," he said.
