Indian Bank to open 100 more branches

M S Sundara Rajan, CMD of the bank, said out of the total number of branches, 43 per cent were located in Tamil Nadu yielding 40 per cent of the total business volume.     

The new branches would come up in Tamil Nadu, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, and North East, he said.     

The bank will add 150 ATMs before end of this year in addition to the present number of 608 ATMs. Besides the bank has plans to issue railway tickets in 24 ATMs located in Railway Stations,he said.     

On bank's strategies to improve credit offtake, the chairman said special focus would be on M S M E (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector and he anticipated a growth of 40 per cent in credit portfolio in the current year.

The bank has shown improvement already in credit portfolio and as on date it was Rs.41,500 crore as against Rs.40,000 crore as of March 31, 2008.

The bank is eyeing for a credit business of Rs.50,000 crore this year, he said.
