In step with the steady hiring by Indian banks, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) and South Indian Bank are planning to recruit 1,200 people, even as financial institutions outside India continue to trim their workforce.
While IOB is looking to hire 1,000 clerks, South Indian Bank is recruiting 200 probationary officers and clerks.
IOB and South Indian Bank are following market leader State Bank of India (SBI) and other entities such as IDBI Bank in announcing massive hiring plans. SBI will recruit 25,000 people for the current fiscal, besides hiring more than 4,200 for its six associate banks.
According to its website, Chennai-headquartered IOB has invited applications for 1,000 clerical staff positions across the country. Tamil Nadu has the highest number of vacancies, 360, while Andhra Pradesh and Delhi have 160 and 110 positions, respectively.
The bank has vacancies in Uttar Pradesh (80), Orissa (48), Maharashtra (40), Punjab (36) and Karnataka (35), among other states.
Meanwhile, South Indian Bank has called for applications to fill up 100 vacant posts for Probationary Officers and another 100 vacancies for clerks. Most of the vacant positions for clerks are in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Recently, SBI said it would be hiring more than 4,200 employees for its six associates banks. The development came just days after the country's largest lender announced plans to recruit 25,000 people.
